Let's heal together

Conquering 2021

Phew! What a year that was! Am I right or am I right?

But the past is in the past and now it’s all about moving forward and conquering 2021. In fact, you’ve probably already started thinking about some New Year’s resolutions. New Year’s resolutions are so much fun and inspiring until we forget to stick to them and stop about two months in. Ugh, where’d our motivation go? Oh right, out the window…

This year is different though, we just know it. So let’s come up with more ideal and realistic resolutions, ones we can promise to keep not only this coming year, but every year after. But in order to come up with some new resolutions, let’s reflect on this past year, shall we?

What lessons came out of this year? My goodness, where do we even begin? Well for us, we can confidently start by saying that this year has taught us that nothing is more important than our own physical and mental health as well as the health of our loved ones. To say the very least, this year has been nothing short of challenging. However, although times are still a bit challenging, we have (almost) navigated through and adapted to our new normal. Whatever your new normal looks like now though, we encourage you to take the time to think about how far you’ve come and the lessons you’ve learned. Look at you, you’ve been able to handle whatever life throws at you like a champ! To us, that’s something to be very proud about. Now don’t get us wrong, we’re not saying any of this was easy. By all means, it has NOT been easy, and it still isn’t. As a matter of fact, there were days that you probably cried and yelled out of frustration (uh…we are guilty of this one). But then there were days that you weren’t able to take the smile off your face because you called and reconnected with an old friend or you stepped outside and let the sun kiss your gorgeous soft skin. Either way, the good and the bad of the year 2020 has led us to where we are currently.

In a sense, we were forced to explore the unknown during this time. Our old normals stopped and we needed to create new ones, fast. But that didn’t stop us from getting creative with our new normals while still keeping a piece of our old normals. The best part is that we didn’t even need a new year to start it. Take our physical health for example. While gyms remain closed, we changed the setting of our workouts to outdoors or created a space within our homes to do our workouts indoors. So, thanks to quarantine, for some, we’ve already gotten started on our resolutions way before the new year already began! Would you look at that, we didn’t even know it.

One example of a resolution during this quarantine period we’ve decided on sticking to is to go hiking more often and explore more of what’s out there in nature, all while still being able to get a good sweat session in. Win, win! Also, did you know that hiking is a full leg workout? Hiking uphill engages the glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, knees and calves while hiking downhill engages the ankles, feet and hips. All that leg work could make you feel super sore though, right? Yes, but no worries, we’re here to save the day! If you’re looking for some kind of way to reduce soreness after your workouts, try our emu oil salve! Our emu oil salve helps to push the CBD into deeper layers of the skin and potentially bring some relief, so no more excuses!

With this being said, a factor that has played a big role and helped us with maintaining the physical aspect of ourselves is having an accountability partner and scheduling our workouts throughout the week with them. You should try it! Schedule in a workout at a specific time and place with your accountability partner to further motivate yourself on being the best version you could possibly be, both mentally and physically.

Another example of a resolution we’ve decided on sticking to during this quarantine period is to take the time to become more aware of our surroundings and to just breathe. Most of us are so consumed with what’s going on outside in the world that we forget to take a second and focus on what’s going on inside of ourselves. For that reason, we wanted to share one of our favorite breathing techniques that helps us reset our mind, body and soul. It’s called the 4 / 7 / 8 breathing technique. We’ve listed the steps to mastering it below:

  1. Inhale through your nose for a count of 4
  2. Hold that breath in for a count of 7
  3. Exhale all of the air out through your mouth for a count of 8

Repeat this technique for 4 breath cycles and see if you notice a difference in your state of mind and being. We’ve provided the link to the video below because let’s be honest, they’re better at explaining how to master this breathing technique than we are. We encourage you to try it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8fjYPC-k2k&t=9s

So, maybe this pandemic was actually a blessing in disguise. We think that if it weren’t for this pandemic, it would have taken us longer to realize our personal strengths and reach our personal goals. Also, we think it would have taken us longer to have a deeper appreciation or convey gratitude to the people and things we currently have in our lives.

Above all, this year taught us that there is no time frame or limit of when or how to do things in life. So, start or continue to express gratitude and appreciation to the ones you love. Start or continue to prioritize your physical and mental health. Start or continue to get out of your comfort zone more often such as trying our hemp derived CBD products. Most importantly, start or continue to do what makes you happy. The choices are endless. Choose one or some that work best for you and your health and let’s heal together.
