Overheard in LA: “OMG, you guys, I took the longest shower yesterday. It felt so good and I was so relaxed after”.
“ Can you not take long showers? You’re wasting so much water…”
Wow! It’s clear that the newest trend is coming in HOT and with full force! Know what it is? If not, try to guess this riddle to find out.
Human existence and species will slowly disappear without me.
Small changes can still have a positive impact on me.
Start now, but don’t stop.
Help me help you.
Guess what it is yet?
The answer is sustainability!
If you guessed correctly, we’re so proud of you!
Sustainability is one of the most crucial factors for not only a better tomorrow but for future generations to come. The whole point of sustainability is for us to not deplete the earth of its natural resources because we are only given a certain amount. And what happens if we use it all before the next generation has a chance to use it? Future generations and species will suffer greatly by our selfish choices.
If you want to hop on this trend and start practicing sustainability but don’t know where to start, we’ve listed some tips and tricks for you below. Start by practicing whichever you are comfortable with. Hopefully, one can lead to many and eventually, a lifestyle.
- Use less water by taking shorter showers and turning off the water when it is not needed, for example when brushing your teeth or washing dishes. Don’t let water run for no reason.
- Reduce your carbon footprint by carpooling with someone, taking public transportation, biking, or walking to your next location (if possible).
- Recycle and switch to reusable items such as reusable bags, utensils, cups and tableware. Avoid single use items as much as possible.
- Use less energy by turning off the lights in your home when you are not in the room.
Without making the conscious decision to not deplete our natural resources, we would continue threatening the ecosystem and unknowingly threatening the quality of life our children will have. Ouch, just the thought of that made it harder for us to breathe.
Hopefully this trend can lead to more of a lifestyle for many (which we think it will and has been already), but for now, let’s talk to you about how our company has been, still is and continues to practice sustainability! Did you know that we have been eco-friendly and have made sustainable choices since our company started back in 2016? Let’s start with one of the main ingredients in all our products, the hemp plant itself. According to hemp entrepreneur, Morris Beegle, hemp is known to be a “sustainable regenerative agricultural crop”. Additionally, every part of the hemp plant can be used to make various materials and products such as textiles, fabrics, paper and so much more.
Moving on to the materials we use for the construction of our stores, we use minimal wood, recycled copper and have plaster walls. As for the packaging of our products, we use biodegradable kraft packaging and recyclable glass containers which can (and should) be repurposed. In addition, our newest product, the hemp wick candles, have been chosen to be made out of terracotta clay and come with a packet of seeds for the mere purpose of encouraging the buyer to repurpose the container into a planter and watch their favorite herbs grow. Lastly, store lights are only turned on during hours of operation and we encourage all members of the team to reduce the amount of trash they produce.
Our goal is to make this world a better place to live inside and outside ourselves. Do we still mess up, though? Absolutely. We are human. But here’s a gentle reminder for all of us: breathe, take it day by day, and don’t overwhelm yourself because things like this take time. However, remember that even the smallest change made today can influence a better tomorrow. You got this. Let’s continue to heal ourselves as well as our planet, one day at a time.
